Holy Water
The burning tears of faith that turn the night's darkness into ash.
Holy Water is the most ubiquitous and essential tool wielded by vampire hunters throughout the Castlevania universe. Unlike ordinary liquid, it has been consecrated through divine rites to possess a searing, purifying property that causes immediate agony and destruction upon contact with undead creatures, demons, and other unholy entities. It serves as both a weapon of last resort and a primary projectile for those who cannot yet master complex weaponry or magic.

Lore & Background
The substance is often depicted as being stored in durable flasks or vials designed to withstand the rigors of combat within the labyrinthine corridors of Castlevania. While powerful against the common fodder of Dracula's army, such as zombies and skeletons, it can be less effective against higher-tier demons who may possess magical shields or regeneration capabilities. Nevertheless, it remains a staple in the arsenal of hunters because its effects are immediate and require no complex incantations to activate, making it perfect for desperate situations where speed is survival.
In Their Own Story
The dungeon corridor was silent save for the dripping of condensation and the heavy thud of Trevor's boots. A shadow detached itself from the wall, a rotting ghoul with hollow eyes that seemed to drink the dim light. Before the creature could shriek, Trevor raised his right hand, uncorking a small glass vial. He hurled it with practiced precision. The bottle shattered against the monster's chest, and for a heartbeat, nothing happened. Then, a hiss erupted like a snake striking. The ghoul screamed as its decaying flesh bubbled and blackened, turning to ash in seconds, leaving only a pile of dust where a killer had stood moments before.
Reader's Guide
Holy Water is typically obtained by purchasing it from merchants found within safe houses or towns on the outskirts of the castle, or occasionally hidden within breakable containers inside the dungeon. In gameplay mechanics, it functions as a consumable item that can be thrown in an arc to hit enemies at mid-range distances. Strategically, Holy Water is invaluable for crowd control and finishing off weakened foes. Because it deals damage over time upon contact with undead targets, it can stagger larger monsters or clear out groups of weak zombies without expending the stamina required for weapon swings. However, its range is limited compared to sub-weapons like the Axe or Crossbow, requiring the player to get dangerously close. Mastery involves timing throws to avoid enemy projectiles while ensuring the splash damage covers multiple targets. It is particularly effective against enemies that are resistant to physical attacks but vulnerable to holy elements. Players should always keep a reserve of flasks for emergency situations where their primary weapon fails or when facing overwhelming numbers.
